چکیده
Efficient degenerate four-wave mixing of 160-psec infrared light pulses at lambda = 1.064 microm in solutions of a new dye that absorbs between 1.0 and 1.6 microm is reported. A Kerr-like third-order susceptibility of X((3))(xyyx) = 8 +/- 3) x 10(-12) esu with a decay time of less than 50 psec is observed in various solvents.

Ultralow-power and ultrafast all-optical tunable plasmon-induced transparency in metamaterials at optical communication range
Actively all-optical tunable plasmon-induced transparency in metamaterials paves the way for achieving ultrahigh-speed quantum information processing chips. Unfortunately, up to now, very small experimental progress has been made for all-optical tunable plasmon-induced transparency in metamaterials in the visible and near-infrared range because of small third-order optical nonlinearity of conve...
متن کاملUltrafast and octave-spanning optical nonlinearities from strongly phase-mismatched quadratic interactions.
Cascaded nonlinearities have attracted much interest, but ultrafast applications have been seriously hampered by the simultaneous requirements of being near phase matching and having ultrafast femtosecond response times. Here we show that in strongly phase-mismatched nonlinear frequency conversion crystals the pump pulse can experience a large and extremely broadband self-defocusing cascaded Ke...

متن کاملCoherent nonlinear optical response of graphene.
We investigate the nonlinear optical properties of graphene flakes using four-wave mixing. The corresponding third-order optical susceptibility is found to be remarkably large and only weakly dependent on the wavelength in the near-infrared frequency range. The magnitude of the response is in good agreement with our calculations based on the nonlinear quantum response theory.
متن کاملSimple setup for rapid testing of third-order nonlinear optical materials.
A relatively inexpensive and versatile degenerate four-wave mixing setup is described utilizing a nitrogen laser pumped dye laser. Samples can be screened rapidly, which is demonstrated with the example of a semiconductor doped glass having a nonlinear susceptibility x((3)) ~ 10(-11)-10(-10) esu.
